Dr. Alison Wellwood, MD, CCFP
Dr. Wellwood studied at Acadia University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science. She subsequently went on to Dalhousie University where she earned her Medical Degree. She completed her family medicine residency postgraduate training through Dalhousie University at the residency training site in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Dr. Wellwood believes in the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and patient-centered care. She practices broad-scope, comprehensive family medicine. She has special interests in health promotion, breastfeeding medicine, chronic disease management, and minor surgical procedures (e.g., IUD insertions, joint injections, excisions). She is also interested in medical teaching and collaborative practice development.
In addition to her office-based practice, Dr. Wellwood provides inpatient care at the Valley Regional Hospital and works at Acadia Student Health. She also provides after-hours care at the Eastern Kings Memorial (EKM) Health Centre. Dr. Wellwood serves on the Doctors Nova Scotia Fee Committee.
In partnership with the Town of Wolfville and Acadia University, Dr. Wellwood volunteers with the AWAKE (Acadia-Wolfville Active Kids Exercise) program which promotes physical activity for youth. She has also been involved in the development of the Fountain of Health Project which promotes evidence-based healthy ageing. In her free time Dr. Wellwood enjoys soccer, running, and spending quality time with her husband and their children.
