As flu season approaches, it’s time to protect yourself and your loved ones! Dr. Wellwood and Dr. Sabine are hosting a Drive-Thru Flu Clinic on the morning of Sunday, November 3rd at the Wolfville Professional Centre parking lot. This convenient and safe option allows you to get vaccinated without leaving your car.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends the enhanced influenza vaccine for individuals aged 65+, as it provides better protection compared to standard-dose vaccines. Now is the perfect time to stay protected and reduce your risk of severe flu complications.
Key Details:
- Where: Parking lot of the Wolfville Professional Centre (stay in your car!)
- When: Sunday, Nov 3rd (morning). Book your appointment online and please arrive on time. The clinic will run rain or shine!
- Who: Patients of Wolfville Collaborative Family Practice who are comfortable receiving their flu shot while seated in their vehicle.
Important Note for Families:
If your child has a fear of needles or might be uncomfortable with a drive-thru vaccination, we recommend scheduling their flu shot at an in-office appointment. This allows us to provide a more supportive environment for their comfort.
Vaccines Available:
- Fluad (Enhanced for 65+): Recommended for seniors for enhanced protection.
- Regular Influenza Vaccine: Available for patients aged 6 months and older.
Important Clinic Guidelines:
- Loose-Fitting Clothing: Please wear clothing that allows easy access to your upper arm, including your shoulder.
- Masking: Masks are not required, but if you have cold symptoms, please wear a mask.
- Health Card: Remember to bring your valid health card for identification.
- Accessibility: If you’re unable to comfortably position your arm through the car window, we’ll open the car door to assist in administering the vaccine.
Don’t Have a Vehicle?
You can still attend the Drive-Thru Clinic! Consider booking a taxi or using Kings Point-to-Point services. Let your driver know you’ll need a 15-minute observation period after your vaccination. Patients can also arrive on foot.
Clinic Flow:
- One-Way Traffic: Enter the parking lot near Eastern Kings Memorial Hospital and exit via Wickwire Ave.
- After entering, you’ll be directed to a designated vaccination spot where Dr. Wellwood or Dr. Sabine will administer your vaccine.
- Following your shot, you’ll remain in your vehicle for a 15-minute observation period. Once you’re cleared, you’re free to leave the parking lot if you feel well.
Other Flu Shot Options:
If you can’t make it to the Drive-Thru Clinic, flu shots will also be available during regular in-office visits. Additionally, scattered 5-minute in-office appointments will be available for flu shots and can be booked online when offered.
